What actually makes a file smaller
Quality first, resolution second
For photos, we lower the encoder's quality setting before touching resolution, since that usually preserves more detail per kilobyte. Only when quality alone can't reach your target do we shrink the image's dimensions.
Format matters as much as the target size
The same photo saved as PNG, JPG, and WebP can differ by several times in file size at equal quality. If you're not hitting the size you expect, switching format under Advanced options often helps more than dropping the target further.
There's a limit to how far any image can shrink
If your target is smaller than what the image can honestly support without looking broken, we say so and give you the smallest usable result instead of pretending we hit an impossible number.

Does reducing file size hurt image quality?+
Some quality loss is unavoidable once you shrink a file below its original size. We minimize it by searching for the highest quality setting that still meets your target, rather than applying a fixed compression level.
Can I reduce a batch of images at once?+
Not yet, the tool currently handles one image at a time, fully in your browser.
